Rachael Rollins for District Attorney of Suffolk County
Progressive West Roxbury/Roslindale enthusiastically endorses Rachael Rollins for Suffolk County District Attorney because she is the most experienced candidate and is dedicated to progressive reforms.
Rachael has broken barriers and implemented change in large organizations before; we need her to do it again. Our next DA will have the extraordinary responsibility of implementing recent criminal justice reforms to stop criminalizing addiction and poverty, and to truly serve all the communities of Suffolk County.
Rachael’s professional and lived experiences on both the prosecution and defense sides of the judicial system give her the insights, values, compassion, and experience to be the right person to lead the hundreds of people in the DA’s office and rebuild relationships with the community.
Nika Elugardo for State Representative in the 15th Suffolk/Norfolk District
Nika Elugardo has extensive experience in community and economic development, including serving as Senior Policy Advisor to Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz. Nika is a champion of single payer health care, strong policies to address our affordable housing crisis, to expand voting access, to ensure that immigrants and all residents have due process rights, and further reform the criminal justice system to guarantee justice for all.
Though the MA Senate passed bold, comprehensive climate legislation, passed important protections for immigrant families, and unanimously passed a bill to fix the outdated education funding formula, the House fell short. Jeffrey Sanchez, the incumbent, is the Chair of the House Ways & Means Committee, where instead of championing all of these issues; he weakened or undermined them.
Katie Forde for Register of Deeds of Suffolk County
Progressive West Roxbury/Roslindale heartily endorses Katie Forde for Register of Deeds. Katie is running against Stephen Murphy, former City Councilor and recent Register. Katie proposes to use the significant budget of the Suffolk Country Registry to be more proactive to teach people about home ownership processes (in many languages), more proactive on fraud alerts, more proactive on recruiting legal help for homeowners who’ve been dealt with unfairly by predatory lenders.
Perhaps we’ve gotten used to the Registry of Deeds being a passive office. Katie has a very different vision for an office that would help homeowners avoid foreclosure, helping to stabilize the most vulnerable homeowners and neighborhoods.
Segun Idowu & Gretchen Van Ness both supported for State Rep in 14th Suffolk
Segun Idowu and Gretchen Van Ness are both great candidates challenging the incumbent, Angelo Scaccia, who was first elected as State Representative in 1973. Gretchen and Segun are committed to progressive values and both have excellent professional and personal experience and policy positions that would make either a terrific State Representative.
In the Progressive West Roxbury/Roslindale endorsement vote, Segun and Gretchen each received strong support, but neither reached our 60% threshold so Progressives West Roxbury/Roslindale are not endorsing in this race. We do, however, believe that either of them can win. Both Gretchen and Segun have been campaigning vigorously for months, generating engagement on the issues; hearing widespread interest in fresh leadership.
Volunteer for Segun! Volunteer for Gretchen!
