Civic Saturdays

On March 25th, we spent our Civic Saturday hearing from Andrew Vega, principal of the Phineas Bates elementary school. He led a talk on what it means to be a disruptor during a time of, and in an environment of, injustice. His interactive talk ended with a main takeaway: Act out your principles; do not merely believe in them. In his words, “Take off those safety pins and poke someone with them!” You can access Andrew Vega’s powerpoint presentation here: Civic Saturday PPT – Ally to Disruptor.

You can RSVP on our Facebook Event Page!

Join us for our Civic Saturdays where we will eat together, share readings, and make new friends. We are bringing our community together to strengthen our bonds, and ourselves, in this post-election moment of fear and uncertainty.

What are Civic Saturdays?

Modeled on the Civic Saturdays in Seattle, this meeting is a civic analogue to church: a gathering of friends and strangers in a common place for a shared purpose. But it’s not about religion; it’s about American civic unity. We will nurture the American creed of liberty, equality, and self-government that truly unites us (even as we argue over it).

All are welcome, so please invite your families, friends, and neighbors.

Únase a nosotros para nuestro Sábado Cívico. Nosotros comeremos juntos, compartiremos lecturas, y conoceremos y haremos nuevos amigos.
